HP CTO On the Future

In a recent Web Guild article, Shane Robinson, Chief Strategy & Technology Office for HP outilined his belief that we are in the early stages of a major shift. As he sees it, some major trends are;

1) cloud computing and everything as a service
2) quantum leap improvements in user experience
3) search will be done for you and not by you
4) from a static web to an intelligent dynamic web
5) context, relevance and availability of information everywhere
6) everyone will be a publisher and content creator
7) crowd sourcing will be a game changer
8) business intelligence will be real time

National Cybersecurity = Cloud Computing Security

A recent article Inc.com article claimed that the percentage of U.S. small businesses using cloud computing is expected to more than double during the next six years, from 37 percent to nearly 80 percent ( http://www.inc.com/graham-winfrey/why-the-cloud-will-transform-small-business-by-2020.html ). This forecast was gleaned from a just released Emergent Research and Intuit study. This statement is also very scary in that it also highlights the growing importance of the cybersecurity threat to the nation’s economic livelihood. Jeremy Grant, an adviser at the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology, says in the past two years he has seen "a relatively sharp increase in hackers and adversaries targeting small businesses." IBM's Blue Cloud Meets Juniper To Alleviate Cloud Computing Adoption Fears

Security and lack of an acceptable SLA are customers' top adoption fears to move to cloud computing . IBM's recent announcements to further advance their cloud computing initiative known as Blue Cloud should help alleviate these fears to some extent. IBM announced their partnership with Juniper for their hybrid cloud initiative to provide secured private cloud with better SLA. IBM also announced new offerings for the cloud - Tivoli storage as service and a new set of cloud management tools to align with what a typical CIO would look for when migrating to the cloud. In addition IBM is pushing some of their existing offerings on the cloud that customers can now use off Amazon's EC2 on pay-as-you-go subscription model . IBM has been experimenting with the concept of a private cloud for a while. One of such experiments included creating a private virtual cloud inside the firewall to deploy some of the regions of SecondLife with seamless navigation in and out of the firewall....
